2020 Luncheon Summaries
Due to the COVID-19 edicts, all PNS Member face-to-face lunches were cancelled. In order to service our older members, a delivery and pick-up service was initiated. We hope that we will be able to meet again to enjoy a meal and each other's company together.
Our sincere thanks to KEIRO for allowing PNS to repurpose the grant award to provide these meals for our older seniors.

PNS is getting better at the entire process and hope we can continue to have bi-monthly lunches served.

November 14, 2020 - Pork Curry and Rice
Today's lunch was some home cooked pork curry and rice with Fukujinzuke tsukemono. Ron and Cindy Dyo donated bags of yummy candy and Scott Shinmoto donated the plastic mask inserts. These fit inside the filter section of your cloth facemasks which adds some comfort to the wearer. We certainly hope you enjoyed it.
Thanks to the Curry Crew: Donna Mitoma, Marvin Inouye, Deena & Bobby Ota, June Chin, and Jeannie for chopping almost 50# of veggies and 18# of pork to prepare this meal. Thanks to the Pasadena Buddhist Temple for allowing us to use their refrigerators for the food and the use of the parking lot for our contactless pick-up. Mrs. Kyoko Gibbs made her delicious homemade Kuri-an dorayaki for the select few that turned in their lunch homework that was assigned on 9/26 ("Name that Song"). |
October 24 - Chicken w/Sesame (Prepared by Ron Dyo)
Today's meal was prepared by Ron and Cindy Dyo. Not only was it a delicious meal, hand sanitizer was included.
Today's homework was a PNS survey, this will help us with future Keiro grants. |
September 26 - Kinda "China Meshi" Combo
Today's meal was a prepared by Jeannie & Ron Toshima, Scott Shinmoto, June Chin, and Diane Hisayasu.
We fired up the griddle and prepared the pork egg-foo young and fried up some chowmein noodles with veggies to round the meal out. Today's homework is a musical quiz. We hope you enjoy it. Thanks to everyone that has been submitting their "homework" that comes with the lunches. Homework assigned 8/24 was submitted by: Mitzi Toshima, Diane Hisayasu, Wade Utsunomiya, Marion Tani, Deena Yanari, Jeri Takeda, Kelly Hokyo, Tom & Tsuru Miyasaki, David & Mary Noguchi, Clyde & Miyako Payne. They received a homemade dorayaki with today's lunch delivery. |

![]() Today's meal was sponsored by the Pasadena BWA. It was a Chicken Teriyaki obento that included rice, takuan, and Broccoli with goma dressing. Dessert made by Jeanne Ideno was a cupcake and fresh strawberries.
Thanks to all the drivers who stopped by the Pasadena Buddhist Temple to pick up the orders and delivered them to our membership. Homework assigned today: Pasadena Crossword Puzzle This week's letter had all the answers to the August 24th problems. Please have fun with the Pasadena Crossword Puzzle that was included in today's flyer and work with a friend! Some of the answers can be quite tricky. But if you are "Old Time" Pasadena....you'll know most of the answers. |
August 24th - Lunas' Enchilada Lunch![]() This delicious meal was prepared by Lunas Restaurant in San Gabriel. We hope you all enjoyed this delicious lunch. It included a cheese enchilada and chicken enchilada with verde sauce, rice and beans. Thanks to Mark Oune for setting this lunch up.

August 15th Delivery/Pick up - Lunch by Chef Dyo![]() Today's lunch was prepared by Ron Dyo.
It included Smoked Salmon, Sweetened Beef with Stir-fried Vegetables, fresh fruit cup, Knott's Raspberry cookies, and fresh corn. Thanks to Tanaka Farms for donating the corn for today's lunch. NO HOMEWORK TODAY! June 20th Delivery/Pick up![]() Today's lunch was prepared by Jeannie and crew. It was a simple meal of chili, rice, and shoyu beef weiner. Fresh green salad, fresh fruit cup, a bag of Fritos...and Gini Ishida's cooky that were not only delicious, but almost too beautiful to eat!
And everyone that returned their homework from the May 23rd lunch got a basket of fresh strawberries from the Las Posas Berry farm in Somis, owned by the Nishimori family. Thanks to all that did their homework. Many thanks to all the volunteers that delivered and helped to prepare these meals! July 11th Delivery/Pick up - Lunch by Chef Dyo![]() Today's lunch was prepared by Ron Dyo. It was a Chicken Teriyaki bowl with veggies. Additional items were homemade nappa cabbage, miso soup and fresh fruit cup. The highlight of the meal were the Fried Mochi Balls....we have been receiving lots of feedback on how much they enjoyed this item. If Ron shares his recipe, I will post it for everyone. Our first (and last) luncheon of 2020 was held on February 22nd at PJCI. Lunch was prepared by Diane Hisayasu and Jeri Takeda and crew. They cooked up some Hayashi Rice, Japanese comfort food! Gini made the dessert again....each decorated with a candy mouse for the Year of the Rat!

2019 Luncheon Summary

November we were treated to a Chinese luncheon from Panda Inn. We had Pan Fried noodles with chicken and vegetables, Pakkai (Sweet and Sour Pork), and Mixed Vegetables. It was served with some homemade Seaweed and Egg Drop soup. Dessert was a delicious pumpkin tart made by Ginny.
October we had Beef Yakisoba. Thanks to Mrs Suzuki who helped us with cooking this delicious luncheon.
September PNS was treated to Chicken Curry at the Pasadena Buddhist Temple by the Buddhist Women's Association
July the PNS was treated to a favorite dish, the Altadena Presbyterian Church's Chicken Pot Pie casserole, Chinese Chicken Salad, watermelon and a delicious dessert.
June 22nd luncheon we served Hiyashi Chukka Salad and Ginny made a delicious fruit parfait.
May 25th the Seniors were served Nikujaga, cabbage tsukemono was prepared by Ron Dyo. Sorry no photos were taken but Ginny served up a delicious Strawberry Guava cake, that Alice Kikkawa served her family. Download the recipe provided by Ginny.
